Hello there! Smile

One of the primary things I fight for, if not the primary thing, is Virtue. It is my belief that developing virtues to their fullest is the key to human evolution and heightening our consciousnesses; transending beyond primitive concepts such as violence and apathy. Where life is more about bettering yourself on the inside rather than trying to keep up with the Jones' so to speak.

A good site for a list of virtues is here: http://www.virtuescience.com/virtuelist.html

Just pick one virtue for a day and when you get out of the shower and have woken up, look in the mirror and assert to yourself "Just for today, I will be more [insert virtue of your choice here]." By saying "Just for today" your mind is more at ease as the task doesn't seem as overwhelming and more doable. Just practice like that with each virtue and at first try to "fake it til you make it" by preteneding enough, you will trick yourself into embodying them more until they just become who you are. You control your reality. Smile

Great post. You also made me think of a few things.

1- The part about pretending at first can make it actually become more natural and genuine. I've heard theories and quotes that if you treat people how they should be, rather than just by how they are, they'll start to become who they should be. Kind of like, to put it simply, if you treat someone like they're a bad person. They'll become so angry that they won't be such a good person to you. But if you treat someone like they're a great person, it'll make them happier, plus wanting to be a great person by living up to the compliments.

2- The other part, kind of like what you're saying. Is to in some way make some progress each day. Even if it's just a little bit, in some way, but the idea is to be continuously make progress. Be it with ourselves, with a project, and/or with others.

Exactly! Smile

I tend to see it sort of like the Law of Attraction; like attracts like. For example, in today's society the primary thought form driving everything is "we are all born sinners" or "I'm only human" or some other self defeating excuse. When did it become a crime to express how awesome you are? Why can't the thought form driving society be "I am totally awesome, I celebrate life, and myself, and you know what, I can be even better and I can help make others better too!" Imagine if everyone felt mutually like that; the world would be a WAY happier place, but society today teaches us to beat ourselves up, that we need material things to make us genuinely happy; that we need money and a cool job and ride to be succesful, that we have to depend on a corrupted system which is eating us alive unless we do smething about it. Unless we step up and show ourselves and the world that we can be super awesome all on our own, that we can be awesome even if we're stark ass naked and living on the street; that we're awesome, even when bullies push us around and knock our glasses off our face. We're awesome. And we can be better. Smile

Actually you do bring up a really good point. I'm able to see both sides of it though.

On one hand, people aren't perfect. We all do make mistakes. It's part of the challenges we face in the world we live in. Not that we have to let that get us down. Nor do we have to dwell on the negativity that could go along with it.

As long as there is that understanding where we're not only showing our good side for the sake of image. That way people won't have to be as disappointed nor grudge-holding and judgmental to someone who makes a mistake. Rather, we can forgive those who want to be forgiven. It doesn't mean we have to say every bad personal thing, but not denying that we haven't lived up to standards of perfection.

Makes it easier to change people. Good people don't need to be changed. Bad people do. If they can relate to us in some way, and see that we can still fight past our mistakes and do good not just despite the mistakes we've made, but rather in spite of it.

And yes, wanting to put good vibes out there. The trick is to not add lies with it. Yes there were the points addressed with this earlier, but if people see what is good as a lie, they lose hope. They have to see the truth that goes along with the good AND the bad. Knowing the place of each. What is honest makes it easier to understand how it really is, and know that good can exist in spite of bad.

Well said. Smile

I love making mistakes, haha; I learn something new every time! heh heh XD. For me I find it helps to look at everything as a win/win sitiation, teaching yourself to, over time, see only the pros of life and hardly any of the cons. (not to be confused with pros and cons of decsions, haha, for that it's best to consider both haha). When only seeing the pros in life, you eventually teach yourself out of negativity or see much less of it because you can see goodness in everyone and everything. Which brings up the conundrum of "Yes,but in this world violence is an unfortunate but necesary evil, for defense!" you can defend yourself without resorting to violence. One time it was seven of them against me, and I eliminated all seven threats with one swift move; running away. (Note, i can run like thrity miles an hour when I really push it, for those who are unable to run away that quickly, you'll have to be clever at running away and be well trained in the arts of hiding. Running Away, and Hiding, are two arts that, when mastered, well preserve your being in virtual every violent encounter, haha. "But what if it's someone else? You want me to just leave them?!" Absolutely not, which is why I encourage Pressure Point Combat so much. There are aproximately 430 pressure points on the human body; nearly every single, possible, thinkable attack they perform on you, can be countered with a block and Pressure Point Strike. Some pressure point strikes render an attacker unconscious (leaving you enough time to give the would-be-victim a crash course in the Running Away and Hiding Arts...or if your strong and fast, just sweep her off her feet and run like hell, but don't drop her....that would be bad....I can see the headlines now: "Superboy Sued for Dropping Would-Be-Victim on Her Ass at Thirty Miles an Hour" lmao XD ...Sorry got off track, I'm a little hyper at the moment....Anyway, yeah, violence no needed! Violence isn't good if it's against innocent defenseless people. If a situation can be defused, then good. Although, if someone is actually in danger and there's no other way to diffuse the situation, then it could be necessary to fight.

I fight peacefully. Smile

While I was in Utah I eventually realized I needed a way to defend myself and so I asked around and got punished for it. But there was a teacher there who was the most gentle of the staff; the only staff member I liked. Anyway, I always saw him as a wise man, he was huge; 300 lbs Polynesian, and was in his late fifties. But he had a lot of experience. You could see it in his eyes which dropped like an old blood hound. Whenever he had to restrain someone he'd get them in a hug sort of thing and the kid instantly calmed down, Jackson Unga just seemed to have the gift to calm people through touch, but, he never taught me how to do that, he got me started though. Up until then I had been teaching myself boxing by sneaking the B Section of the World Book Series and in it depicts basic boxing techniques. But Jackson, during class, handed me a book. He had seen my black eyes, and fat lips countless times and he knew why. It was an anatomy book. He whispered softly in my ear, "If you need help on he nervous system chapters, I'll be working night shift on your unit." and winked at me. I studied the book with him and we actually both learned new things and tested it on one another and he taught me how to defend myself. He always, from the start, recomendedthat I run away instead, but I was stupid back then and wanted to fight back until they were down and out but I got my ass kicked. Jackson told me, "Grasshopper...quit wasting your fucking time" as he shook his finger at me with an authoritive grandfather face. He called me grasshopper a lot; I guess it's from an old TV series he used to watch about kung fu. I guess a master teacher or wise man called his pupil "Grasshopper". I was a little confused though as to what he meant by "wasting my time".

"Why spend your time fighting a battle you don't have to? Emotion? Get rid of it, cut it out with your sword and slice it to ribbons.Follow your heart, manage your emotions and know when and when not to use them". So now, if I can run away right off, i will. I'll look like a pussy, but the goal is nobody gets hurt, and running away is the ideal way to do that. If I can't run away, then in whatever way they attack me, I'll be able to manuever with grabs holds and pressure point strikes so I'm behind him/her and then run away. If it's three or more and they're surrounding, my first order of business would be to grab the nearest ones belt/waistband while grabbing his hair and swinging him into the others lower bodies, and then running away haha. I'm all for fighting back, but I'm also all for only fighting back until the first oppertunity to run away arrives. And then running away, and/or getting any potential victims to safety after you buy some time with a few vital point strikes. Don't even fight until the other says "Uncle" or is begging you to stop, basically, just push him down and run away. (Only it's more like Methodically and Peacfully pushing him over/creating an oppertunity of escape and then running away as quickly as possible and hide if you need to.

Sure, this may very well sound like "being a pussy" but really it's the most logically sound, practical, and efficient martial art on this planet, haha. And plus I don't have to have the injury of another human being on my conscience. I just feel horrible whenever I've had to get violent so I just decided I'm not going to do it ever again. At first I mainly just got beat up a lot, and then I gradually got better and better at running away to the point it appeared I could turn invisible and just disappear haha. There really is an art to Running Away and Hiding, it's a discipline, there's tons of details and variables to be put into practice and taken into account. Learning about Anatomy, Neuromuscular Facilitation, Hypnosis, Self Hypnosis, Sensory Perception, and many more. It's kinda hard to teach though, but the two best tools to have beforehand are 1. Both Legs. and 2. Your Brain. And that's really all you need. You may have to learn the way I did and just get beat up a lot without fighting and gradually/insitincually becoming better and better at running away and/or hiding. Seriously; I'm like a pro now, Razz

But yeah, I'm a big supporter of running away and/or hiding. I feel it's the best and likely only way to prevent needless and senseless injury to others.
