It's hard to anticipate random acts of violence, and people who stand out (such as our community) are even more likely to be targets.
While it can be difficult to maintain vigilance all the time, keep alert for signs that you may be targeted. People looking at you, then actively looking away is a sign that you are currently in their thought process.
Sudden or random attacks exploit the element of surprise to put you at a tactical disadvantage. If you train to respond with 'violence of action' (or an immediate, sudden, overwhelming counter-attack) in response to surprise, you may be able to regain the advantage.
Something to think about, at least.
