PostSubject: Kick ass concerns    Kick ass concerns I_icon_minitimeMon Aug 19, 2013 6:47 pm

Good evening fellow RLSH, just a short it's here. I have a rising concern at the moment about an issue that another RLSH (name not disclosed) pointed out to me. That is the popularity of the film and it's sequel Kick-Ass. While they're fun films to watch I wish to give a simple reminder to us all that they ARE NOT a good example. The main reason of course being that Hitgirl etc casually kill thugs and criminals. Can't speak for the US but I know that in the UK murder is still a crime. That includes the loping off of hands and limbs, through they would be filed under assault. I know we're not idiots but I fear that people might watch these and feel that acts like this are acceptable as long as your wearing a mask. I felt this was a legitimate enough of a concern to post it but I do not believe that anyone here would commit this form of act.

I'm not really concerned that much because when
The first movie came out everyone was saying
How a whole bunch of people including kids
were going toTry and copy these characters and
go around Causing serious injuries and maybe kill
someone But that didn't happen then I don't think
It will happen this time around
I also remember the news over doing it when they
Talked about the Power Rangers when that first came
On 20 yrs ago and the same with the TMNT before
That and back in the 60s there was that old fart
Who took DC to court over the idea that Superman
Was encouraging young kids to vandalise property
and Steal things while if he had gotten the proper
Set of glasses he would have seen Superman stoping
Kids and thugs from commiting such acts and not
Started the whole Superman witch hunt

They all said this during the first one. I wouldn't find this any more likely than it already would've been, from all other more seemingly realistic superhero movies, like Blankman, for example.

The only thing that bothers me about the Kick-Ass films in relation to being a RLSH is that it IS such a unrealistic interpretation of what we actually do. If enough police or authorities see it then they might think we're attempting to imitate the characters in the film. And thus, try to shut us down. Or crack down harder on mask laws etc etc.

A minor annoyance recently has been my last patrol on Sunday someone yelling across the street at me "Hey Kick-Ass!!! YO!!! KICK-ASS!!! Why don't you come over here and kick my ass?!?!". I feel these films are making us look like we're just hoping on the bandwagon or something. I know for myself I started in Sept of 2009 a year before the first film even came out. So OBVIOUSLY I'm not just trying to copy Kick-Ass. But since I'm wearing a lot of green and so does he, I'm gonna get shoved into the same corner and labelled as a Kick-Ass wanna-be..... GRRR!!!

Aftershock,

It does happen when ever any superhero related tv show or movie comes out. The worst one was when "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?" came out. First let me be clear that I think Stan Lee, and the cast members from both seasons were cool. I knew mostly all of them on the 1st season, almost met 1 of them on the first season. And I had gotten to meet someone from the 2nd season in person.

ANYway, when that came out, a lot of people would ask me "So, were you one of those people trying out for that tv show?" as if they thought I was only an actor. Even some of the people who were on the show actually did this for real in one way or another. So not even they were actors. But people thought we were that.

Sometimes people have their own ideas, whether overglorifying or underglorifying us. It never is really in the middle.

But it doesn't change the mission. It can change the way things happen on our patrols, but the purpose of a patrol is to make change. If things were already perfect then there'd be less of a need for us anyway.

True. But it's a little disconcerting when people watch shows like Kick-Ass and assume we're out there to whoop every law-breaker's ass. Or challenge us to a fight cuz they get the wrong idea.

I just don't wanna be surrounded by a bunch of angsty young adults who are gunning for a fight when I'm out at night by myself. I'm still trying to think of a strategy of how to react to such a scenario.... BTW any suggestions on this would be awesome...

People will always assume (whoops, I just assumed that! LOL damnit! See? Even I'm doing it!), and it's annoying as it gets, but somehow I think it's more meaningful when we continue to show people the truth in our actions, despite that. Regardless of how many people want to be wrong, we will always be right. If a colorblind man thinks your suit is orange, it doesn't change you from being green.

Aftershock,
I just now saw your post. Sorry for the delayed reply.

Geist,
Thanks for bumping this up.

Aftershock,
Do what you believe is right for any given situation. If you want to follow Geist's suggestion for diplomacy and humor if you think it will work, then go for it. If it isn't going to work, be very assertive. Stick to what you believe is right. I don't want to advise instigating anything but I won't advise backing down. Fight if you must.

Tothian and I agree on both points. Again, we agree to disagree. Tothian would also agree to let the situation and your abilities to be your guide, I'm sure.

All My Best.

Tothian is on the mark.

If humor and diplomacy doesn't pan out fight or run. Just get a person with a back-up team on the phone.

Stay Safe and Stay Sharp,

Although it might sound like it, I don't think we're contradicting each other when it comes down to the details. I think that Tothian and I generally agree in principle and maybe methods.

As a person who has always avoided a fight (unless you count breaking the nose of a boxer), what's your first move?

well i they outright challenge you then diplomacy & humor have a better chance. If they bum rush you, either hold yer ground if you know a martial art or rush them back if you do not. Do not be afraid to fight dirty at all. Survive.

I once faught on my high school steps junior year, there were just two but they kinda bum rushed me after spitting venom(mean stuff) out their mouths. The first one grabbed me and colided a headbutt with my headbutt. We were shakin off the collision but to be smart knowing he's still infront of me I kicke dhim in the balls and grabbed his face (think a finger went Deep in his nose when I grabbed there) and realed him down the stairs. The second guy swung at me with his right and hit my left eye and then swung again. I got hit 4times in the face before I got ahold of myself, ducked, stood up under his armpit and yanked hard up with my right hand on his balls whereas my left grabbed beneath his wallet and flung him over the railing onto the bottom steps.

*shrugs* I survived. Chances are high you wont fight in a school, but dont be afraid to use the sidewalk, a lightpole, garbages, a brick wall, some other kind of wall, rocks, belts excetra.

In my experience if they talk first they're weaker than they seem.

Geist,

To answer each of your 3 posts:

1- Sure.

2- Alright.

3- I see. And I'm wondering that too (if you are asking Aftershock)

Wildcat,
Depends on the situation. For reference:

Lost Dragon,

I see what you mean.

I don't even know what to say to all that at the moment. Except maybe "holy damn!" to Lost Dragon's scenario lol. I hope I never run into a situation where I'm out alone and surrounded by like 5 dudes. That'd be a bad patrol if I ever heard of one. o.O
