Bilderberg Group

The Bilderberg Group, Bilderberg conference, or Bilderberg Club is an annual, unofficial, invitation-only conference of approximately 120 to 140 guests from North America and Western Europe, most of whom are people of influence. About one-third are from government and politics, and two-thirds from finance, industry, labour, education and communications. Meetings are closed to the public.
Origin
The original conference was held at the Hotel de Bilderberg, near Arnhem in the Netherlands, from 29 to 31 May 1954. It was initiated by several people, including Polish politician Józef Retinger, concerned about the growth of anti-Americanism in Western Europe, who proposed an international conference at which leaders from European countries and the United States would be brought together with the aim of promoting Atlanticism – better understanding between the cultures of the United States and Western Europe to foster cooperation on political, economic, and defense issues. Retinger approached Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands who agreed to promote the idea, together with former Belgian Prime Minister Paul Van Zeeland, and the head of Unilever at that time, Dutchman Paul Rijkens. Bernhard in turn contacted Walter Bedell Smith, then head of the CIA, who asked Eisenhower adviser Charles Douglas Jackson to deal with the suggestion. The guest list was to be drawn up by inviting two attendees from each nation, one of each to represent conservative and liberal points of view. Fifty delegates from 11 countries in Western Europe attended the first conference, along with 11 Americans.
The success of the meeting led the organizers to arrange an annual conference. A permanent Steering Committee was established, with Retinger appointed as permanent secretary. As well as organizing the conference, the steering committee also maintained a register of attendee names and contact details, with the aim of creating an informal network of individuals who could call upon one another in a private capacity.[citation needed] Conferences were held in France, Germany, and Denmark over the following three years. In 1957, the first US conference was held on St. Simons Island, Georgia, with $30,000 from the Ford Foundation. The foundation supplied further funding for the 1959 and 1963 conferences.
Role
In his 1980 essay The Bilderberg and the West, researcher Peter Thompson argues that the Bilderberg group is a meeting ground for top executives from the world’s leading multinational corporations and top national political figures to consider jointly the immediate and long-term problems facing the West. According to Thompson, Bilderberg itself is not an executive agency, but when Bilderberg participants reach a form of consensus about what is to be done they have at their disposal powerful transnational and national instruments for bringing about what it is they want to come to pass. That their consensus design is not always achieved, he concludes, is a reflection of the strength of competing resisting forces outside the capitalist ruling class and within it.
Organizational structure

Meetings are organized by a steering committee with two members from each of approximately 18 nations. Official posts, in addition to a chairman, include an Honorary Secretary General. There is no such category in the group's rules as a "member of the group". The only category that exists is "member of the Steering Committee". In addition to the committee, there also exists a separate advisory group, though membership overlaps.
Dutch economist Ernst van der Beugel became permanent secretary in 1960, upon Retinger's death. Prince Bernhard continued to serve as the meeting's chairman until 1976, the year of his involvement in the Lockheed affair. The position of Honorary American Secretary General has been held successively by Joseph E. Johnson of the Carnegie Endowment, William Bundy of Princeton, Theodore L. Eliot, Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, and Casimir A. Yost of Georgetown's Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.
A 2008 press release from the 'American Friends of Bilderberg' stated that "Bilderberg's only activity is its annual Conference. At the meetings, no resolutions are proposed, no votes taken, and no policy statements issued" and noted that the names of attendees were available to the press. The Bilderberg group's unofficial headquarters is the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.
According to the 'American Friends of Bilderberg', the 2008 agenda dealt "mainly with a nuclear free world, cyber terrorism, Africa, Russia, finance, protectionism, US-EU relations, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Islam and Iran".

Participants
Historically, attendee lists have been weighted towards bankers, politicians, and directors of large businesses.
Heads of state, including King Juan Carlos I of Spain and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, have attended meetings. Prominent politicians from North America and Europe are past attendees. In past years, board members from many large publicly traded corporations have attended, including IBM, Xerox, Royal Dutch Shell, Nokia and Daimler.
The 2009 meeting participants in Greece included: Greek prime minister Kostas Karamanlis; Finnish prime minister Matti Vanhanen; Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt; U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg; U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner; World Bank president Robert Zoellick; President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso; Queen Sofia of Spain; and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
In 2009 the group hosted a dinner meeting at Castle of the Valley of the Duchess in Brussels on 12 November to promote the candidacy of Herman Van Rompuy for President of the European Council.
The membership of the Bilderberg group is drawn largely from West European and North American countries. Journalist Caroline Moorehead, in a 1977 article critical of the Bilderberg group's membership, quoted an unnamed member of the group: "No invitations go out to representatives of the developing countries. 'Otherwise you simply turn us into a mini-United-Nations,' said one person. And, 'we are looking for like-thinking people and compatible people. It would be worse to have a club of dopes.'" In her article, Moorehead characterized the group as "heavily biased towards politics of moderate conservatism and big business" and claims that the "farthest left is represented by a scattering of central social democrats".

The 1976 Bilderberg conference was planned for April at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, United States. Due to the ongoing Lockheed scandal involving Prince Bernhard at the time, it had to be cancelled.


Privacy
The meeting hotels are inaccessible for any other guest for the full period of the conferences and sentineled by private security staffs as well as by local police authorities. During the Bilderberg Meeting at Vouliagmeni (Greece) in 2009, for instance, the British Guardian reporter Charlie Skelton was arrested twice after having taken pictures of vehicles.

Conspiracy theory
According to chairman Étienne Davignon, a major attraction of Bilderberg group meetings is that they provide an opportunity for participants to speak and debate candidly and to find out what major figures really think, without the risk of off-the-cuff comments becoming fodder for controversy in the media. However, partly because of its working methods to ensure strict privacy, the Bilderberg group is accused of conspiracies. This outlook has been popular on both extremes of the political spectrum, even if they disagree on what the group wants to do. Some on the left accuse the Bilderberg group of conspiring to impose capitalist domination,while some on the right have accused the group of conspiring to impose a world government and planned economy.
In 2001, Denis Healey, a Bilderberg group founder and, for 30 years, a steering committee member, said: "To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair. Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn't go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing." In 2005 Davignon discussed these accusations with the BBC: "It is unavoidable and it doesn't matter. There will always be people who believe in conspiracies but things happen in a much more incoherent fashion... When people say this is a secret government of the world I say that if we were a secret government of the world we should be bloody ashamed of ourselves."
In a 1994 report Right Woos Left, published by the Political Research Associates, investigative journalist Chip Berlet argued that right-wing populist conspiracy theories about the Bilderberg group date back as early as 1964 and can be found in Schlafly's self-published book A Choice, Not an Echo, which promoted a conspiracy theory in which the Republican Party was secretly controlled by elitist intellectuals dominated by members of the Bilderberger group, whose internationalist policies would pave the way for world communism. Also, in August 2010 former Cuban president Fidel Castro wrote an article for the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma in which he cited Daniel Estulin’s 2006 book The Secrets of the Bilderberg Club, which, as quoted by Castro, describes "sinister cliques and the Bilderberg lobbyists" manipulating the public "to install a world government that knows no borders and is not accountable to anyone but its own self." Author Brian Dunning observes that "Cuba is not among the nations represented in the Bilderberg Group and Castro has never attended a meeting", so he has no greater insight than any reader of Estulin's book.
G. William Domhoff, a research professor in psychology and sociology who studies theories of power, sees the role of international relations forums and social clubs such as the Bilderberg group as a place to share ideas, reach consensus, and create social cohesion within a power elite. He adds that this understanding of forums and clubs such as the Bilderberg group fits with the perceptions of the members of the elite. Domhoff warns progressives against getting distracted by conspiracy theories which demonize and scapegoat such forums and clubs. He argues that the opponents of progressivism in the United States are conservatives within the corporate elite and the Republican Party. It is more or less the same people who belong to forums and clubs such as the Bilderberg group, but it puts them in their most important roles, as capitalists and political leaders, which are visible and therefore easier to fight.
Politico journalist Kenneth P. Vogel reports that it is the "exclusive roster of globally influential figures that has captured the interest of an international network of conspiracists," who for decades have seen the Bilderberg meetings as a "corporate-globalist scheme", and are convinced powerful elites are moving the planet toward an oligarchic "new world order". He goes on to state that these conspiracists' "populist paranoid worldview", characterized by a suspicion of the ruling class rather than any prevailing partisan or ideological affiliation, is widely articulated on overnight AM radio shows and numerous Internet websites.
Author James McConnachie comments that conspiracy theorists have a point, but that they fail to communicate it effectively. He argues that the Bilderberg group acts in a manner consistent with a global conspiracy, but does so without the same "degree of nefariousness", a difference not appreciated by conspiracy theorists, who "tend to see this cabal as outright evil." McConnachie concludes: "Occasionally you have to give credit to conspiracy theorists who raise issues that the mainstream press has ignored. It's only recently that the media has picked up on the Bilderbergers. Would the media be running stories if there weren't these wild allegations flying around?"
Proponents of Bilderberg conspiracy theories in the United States include individuals and groups such as the John Birch Society political activist Phyllis Schlafly, writer Jim Tucker, political activist Lyndon LaRouche, right wing radio host Alex Jones, and politician Jesse Ventura, who made the Bilderberg group a topic of a 2009 episode of his TruTV series Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura. I was doing a bit of research on them last night. I tend to be a bit of a Political Historian in my personal life, so I was curious as to what different politicians had to say on it. From what I saw, they tried to pick Mitt Romney's running mate as soon to be former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (whose second term expires tomorrow), but he'd already indicated that he wasn't interested in being Vice President. He takes office as President of Purdue University tomorrow. I did hear that Mitt Romney had originally settled on NJ Gov. Chris Christie as his running mate before he'd left for his trip to England, but then when he came back he changed his mind to Congressman/House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan. Ron Paul doesn't seem to think too highly of them, but then again in the video I saw, which I could post soon, he didn't really have a lot to say about them neither.

I don't think the Bilderberg group is such a big deal. But that's just because I'm impossible to control now. I have contingency plans for like, every possible scenario from a mugger on the street to the end of the world as we know it. Lately, and maybe it's just because I've had to grow up fast and I have a family and a career to tend to now, but lately I haven't been caring too much about stuff like the bilderberg group. Instead I'm more worried about my life. All I care about is making sure my little spot on the earth is brighter and safer. I prefer education, guidance, and prevention and working with my friends, my family, my friends' families, and my close acqaintences and other people in my life such as my coworkers and my boss (whoever it may be on any given day; changes all the time) and my workplace in general. As a superhero my mission is to be the best I can be in my life. May sound bad to say it, but the rest of the world can burn and I'd be okay because I know that my little spot on the earth would be safe. I don't patrol or do charity work or outreach anymore, and I don't reccomend or encourage it anymore. If everyone did the same, just worried about focussing all their energy into their Circle, the world would be way safer and make way more of a difference than any patrol ever has in history.

It's alright. And the part that I disagreed with was how I do believe it is more constructive and feels more meaningful if we do things for others.

And also the part about the Bilderberg Group. They basically try to control too much of everything. People that powerful, who have to be so secretive about what they talk about. It's really creepy. I do believe that our voices matter. The quote that I currently have on top of the forum explains my thoughts on it.

Ah. Well I agree with that; helping others is productive and meaningful. But I focus on helping the ones I can. The ones I know without a doubt that I can help in some manner are the people in my life right now, and the ones who will be in my life in the future.
When i did patrol, I occasionally helped someone. Be it giving a cigarette or some cash to a homeless veteran, or some cab for or a place to stay. Other times were spent battling those who wanted to hurt someone else, be it a rapist, a mugger, or a gang initiation. Sometimes it was investigative operations and undercover work. But after a while, I started pondering how much have I really accomplished. I still see the same homeless people in my neighborhood. Those individuals I protected and the women who were about to get raped may have all just as easily gotten into the same situation the following night when I wasn't their to play nanny. I realized, though it sounds odd, that I didn't actually accomplish anything. Nothing changed. I felt better about going to the capital and saving those kids from the Director though. I could see and observe the changes. My voice was heard by the same creepy powerful people that are invited to the Bilderberg group meetings, Senators, Governors, Representatives, Agencies, Organizations.
But the most change I have ever observed in all of my activities is the changes in my own life when I decided that the people I need to focus on are the ones right in front of me. Not strangers. While I was trying to protect total strangers whom I have no personal relationship with, my family needed me. My friends needed me. I decided I'd help them first. That I'd make sure my Circle is safe before worrying about strangers, but over time, my Circle kept growing, and I continued to touch more new individuals on a personal level, and it dawned on me that I'm never going to be finished with my Circle. They're the ones who need me, and I have to be their superhero first and foremost. If I'm elsewhere on business or whatever it may be, and I see someone getting hurt, I;ll definitely step in and help, but I'm not looking for it anymore; I don't set aside hours out of my day to patrol for total strangers who may or may not need any protecting that night when I could be spending that time making real changes in my Circle. And if others focussed on their circles, if one person in each family committed their full attention to their family, everyone would be safe. And so my job as a superhero became about being a rolemodel of how one should live their life. I've inspired others in my Circle to follow this path with their circles, and they've seen the power it has as well, but some refuse, and they mayt redicule or reject my methods, in which case I wish them a happy day and move onto someone who wants my help. I don't help the unwilling, because it's a waste of time.
Helping others is important. But it's also important to be aware of who the right people are, and direct your energy into them instead of strangers. Those said strangers will be fine so long as someone in their Circle cares, and who knows, perhaps you would be the one who inspired that Circle's superhero, and so in a way, by helping yourself and your circle, you are changing the world, you are introducing something new, and make bigger changes than patroling in an outfit ever could.
But as before, this is just my opinion; I have no issues with how others decide to live their lives. I used to, but it got tiring, so I learned to accept it and focus on my own life.
With the Bilderberg Group, I can understand the issue of not wanting to be controlled, believe me; I grew up in a cage with mad scientists poking and prodding at my brain and body for three years, I have big issues with being controlled. But like with most other aspects in my life, I have a tendency to go inwards, instead of outwards. For example: "The Bilderberg Group want to control me." where most would think "Go after the Bilderberg Group!" I have a tendency to think, "I'll make it impossible for them to be able to control me by developing my own self and securing my perimiters and putting in place several nonconfrontation contingency plans to ensure my wellbeing." They may control other people, and they'll succeed because while those people were so busy trying to go after the Bilderberg group they neglected to ensure the survival of their Circles, and are vulnerable to all manner of attacks both physical and subtle, and also because most people don't oput as much effort into their Circles as I do. Everyone in my family and all my friends; we're intimately connected. We can practicaly read each others thoughts. We're all in everything together, we're like a huge team....an ARMY. An extremely close, understanding, prepared, bonded army. Let the Bilderberg Group do what they want to my city; I know that hundreds of individuals, all the ones I spent time with on a personal, individual basis (as opposed to a quick random meeting on the street between two individuals who don't even know the others names) will be safe, secured, armed, and prepared.
The epiphany I had is basically that problems only get insolved internally. Going outside your self, outside your circle, it won't change anything nearly as much as creating a personal netowork does, starting with your own Circle. It'll grow into an army.
This too is just my opinion. I prefer being very subtle and indirect and letting things just sort of fall into place. Like dominos.

I think that the Bilderberg Group is focused on subliminal ways of running the world. So that people don't even know that they are following them. And that if anyone does speak out against them, gets labeled a conspiracy theorist, as if it's some kind of bad thing or something.

The thing is though, we don't know the truth. Nothing that goes on in those meetings is released to the public, none of us have attended one of their meetings, we don't know what the truth is. It's a bit rash in my eyes to listen to what the conspiracy theories are and immediately buy into it. We don't know any of those people, and we don't know what they discuss. It could be perfectly harmless. Until we have some hardcore evidence of foul play we should act as though the world continues to spin on.

That is an impressive list. And those are just the ones we know about. But what that list tells me personally, is that a lot of people are invested in it. A lot of very important people, I might add. So I kinda think if what they discussed was so sinister and dangerous that more of them would be coming forward with the real truth and some real evidence, that we can verify, out of concern for their jobs, their families, and their reputations. And so that sort of leads me to think that it's not that big a deal. At least not yet. Take everything online with a grain of salt.

And if so many people are involved in an un-sinister committee, I say what they hey, maybe it's beneficial. Maybe they're working on making the world a better place. And just perhaps there's a good reason they have their meetings in private. Just because it's private doesn't mean it's sinister and evil. The Reception I hosted in Juneau last February was a Private Party; governors, senators, represenatives, other members of the State Legislature, powerful and influencial people. It was invitation-only. And that wound up saving all the kids in Alaska from the Director. It wasn't foul play, it's just that business is better discussed in private when you have some time to talk and negotiate. Or manipulate. You know, whatever comes first haha.

I say don't fight the Government, use the Government. Oh yeah, there's corruption all right, but there's a ton more good, honest, hard working folks in politics than the conpiracy theorists want you to think. No more "down with the man"; we just need some new men every once in a while. It's rediculous how many people are working the industry for decades, they need replacements. That's where corruption comes in. You start working a long career and get some kind of reputation and influence, then it becomes all about making favors and taking favors and then corruption has finally laid in.

So lay that guy off after four years, and get a new one. Four years, and that's it, you're outa here. Haha. That way everything stays nice and fresh.

Hero Man,

You make some good points there. About how we should use the government that was created by the people and for the people.

But, while what they talk about specifically there is secret, some of it is known, about what their agenda is. They want to create a one world order. And the stuff they do doesn't help, nor would a one world order.

What are the sources?

What have they done that hasn't helped anything?

And if they are, what can we do?

And if we can't do anything significant, then why are we focussing on it?

There's nothing I know of currently that I can do, except make my family and friends as self independant as humanly possible. My family and I live completely off the grid. We grow and hunt our own food, we heat our own house with wood, we make our own lumber, we genereate our own electricity and have back up redundant systems, in addition to go packs and a truckload of the bare necessities and other camping/survival gear. So a big thing I do as a superhero is teach my family and friends things to that build independance and embody freedom, so that when the economy does collapse, or someone does try to take over the world, we'll be ready, and we don't have to rely on anyone or anything except ourselves. It doesn't matter for the people I've helped so far and the people I'll continue to educate and guide if Bilderberg tries to go for a one world government. And if it escalated to a Red Dawn type of scenario, then we have underground bunkers and a group of thirty guys willing to form a guerilla unit fully armed, armored, and ready to rumble.

I guess I just personally spend more time on protecting and helping rather than fighting. I prevent trouble from happening in the first place. Education, guidance, and prevention.

If there is something we can actually do about the Bilderberg group, I'm all ears, but it seems like a situation that would be above our level, and so the best thing we could do is prepare the masses.
